Editorial story: the notebook that kept its evidence trail

A clearly labelled FreeStack example shows how a fictional research request became one question, one synthetic dataset and an inspectable handoff before any cloud credits were bought.

A FreeStack editorial composite created as a learning resource. It is not a member story, testimonial, customer result or report of hands-on tool testing.

01

This is a FreeStack editorial example

The researcher, dataset and decision are a fictional composite created to explain a planning choice. There is no invented member, testimonial, conversation, institution, usage metric, scientific result or customer outcome. The sample uses synthetic plant-height data.

02

The first request asked for a paper

The imagined brief asked an AI lab to collect sources, analyse measurements, choose a method, make figures and draft a conclusion. Nobody had named the input, exclusion rule or reviewer. The team reduced the first deliverable to one descriptive question and a synthetic CSV so the evidence trail could be inspected before automation widened the scope.

03

The raw file stayed untouched

A small JupyterLab folder separated input, notebook and output. pandas loaded the synthetic rows, displayed types and missing values, and wrote a cleaned table only after each filter was explained. The notebook did not become a source of truth merely because its cells ran without error.

04

The figure carried its boundary

The Matplotlib export named the fictional sample, units and row count in its caption. It described a comparison without claiming causality or statistical significance. This story does not claim FreeStack executed the notebook; it illustrates the review standard in the linked guide.

05

The environment became part of delivery

The fictional handoff included package versions, warnings and a clean restart note. Git named the input, review and delivery checkpoints, while independent backup and access control remained separate. No personal data, model key or cloud credential entered the repository.

06

Payment stayed tied to a real gap

Managed cloud research would be considered only for an approved private dataset, long-running compute, governed team review, specialist sources or another requirement the small pack could not meet. Saving the starter stack keeps catalogue links in a private FreeStack stack; it does not run analysis, validate a method or buy credits.
