Record clear design feedback without another subscription
A one-tool workflow for showing the exact problem, explaining its effect and asking for a specific change.
A short local feedback recording and a written change request that point to the same design version.
A useful review makes the next revision easier. This fictional café-menu example focuses on one unclear heading, not a tour of every design choice. Use Screenity’s free extension for local capture; its paid editor and cloud sharing are separate. The illustrated review below is an original FreeStack concept, not an actual recording or client result. Sources checked 15 October 2026.
Free boundaries before you start

The free GPLv3 Chrome recorder supports screen/camera/mic capture, drawing, blur and local download. Current homepage assigns scenes, auto-zoom, captions, sharing links and MP4 exports to the paid editor. README still describes broader free exports: that conflict is unresolved, so this guide promises local download only. Hosted paid-editor trial is not an ongoing free plan.
No account needed to download the free extension's local recording. Hosted sharing requires a paid account.
A small example to aim for

Mark the hierarchy problem, not the person.
Keep dish copy unchanged; send v4 for review.
FreeStack example output · illustrative, not a provider screenshot or a tested export.
Jump to a step
Choose one decision, not a running commentary
Open a copy of the exact design version being reviewed. Write three short lines before recording: where the issue appears, why it matters for the reader, and what change you want tried. For our example: the lunch menu’s section heading looks like a dish name, so ask for clearer spacing and hierarchy. Separate an observed problem from a proposed solution. Avoid asking for a complete redesign when one comparison could resolve the uncertainty.
Prepare only what the recipient should see
Install the free Screenity Chrome extension from the maintainer’s official link. Choose the relevant tab or capture area and enable the microphone only if narration helps. Close private tabs, hide notifications and replace client details with sample information where possible. Make a short capture test and play it back to check sound and readable text. A blur tool is not a substitute for keeping confidential material outside the capture.
Show context, issue and requested change
Start on the full page and name its version. Move to the heading, pause, and use a simple annotation to identify the issue. Explain the reader’s likely difficulty without presenting your opinion as tested user research. Finish with one actionable request: compare the existing heading with a more distinct heading treatment, keeping dish text unchanged. Take a new short recording if you lose the thread; this workflow does not depend on the paid scene editor.
Download, replay and pair it with a note
Keep a local download using the free extension’s download route. Open that actual file in a player and check the beginning, the marked issue and the ending. This source check does not promise a particular free export format; the current provider page places MP4 export in its paid editor. Attach the file through the client’s existing approved delivery channel, within its file-size limits. Include the design filename and the requested change in plain text so the instruction is searchable without watching again.
Pay only when delivery has a named gap
Ask the recipient whether they can identify the exact place and next action. Revise the note if they cannot. FreeStack editorial upgrade triggers: consider managed video sharing if file delivery repeatedly fails, controlled links are required or recipients cannot play the local file; consider a paid editor when captions or scene-based revisions are a recurring requirement. Check actual access controls and export behaviour before subscribing. One clear review does not need an automatic subscription.

A couple of useful questions
Do I need an account or a trial?
The provider explicitly says the free extension can keep recordings on your device and download them without an account. The hosted editor’s seven-day trial is not the free product used in this guide.
Does this replace written feedback?
No. The recording supplies context; the written note names the design version and next action. Use text alone when that is already clear.
Can I rely on automatic captions or a public link for free?
Not in this workflow. The current official page places those features in the paid editor. If accessible captions are a delivery requirement, plan a suitable captioning route before recording rather than promising them after the fact.
What does Save this toolkit keep?
The existing flow saves the Screenity listing to your private FreeStack stack after sign-in. It does not upload, store or share the review video.
