Inside Documenso: why the workflow needs more than a signature box
The current public stack, plus lessons about keeping document states understandable.
Discovered through Product Hunt and checked against the maintainers’ current repository. No current launch-rank claim.
The current stack
Documenso’s README now names React Router v7 as its framework and Hono as its server. The list also includes TypeScript, Prisma, Tailwind, shadcn/ui with Radix UI, tRPC and Playwright. PDF viewing and signing use specialised libraries. An older technology list should not be treated as current.
A lesson for product makers
FreeStack takeaway: actions should change a visible state. Draft, ready to send and completed should feel different to the user. Before designing a complicated workflow, write the allowed transitions and the recovery route for each mistake.
A safe learning exercise
Build a non-binding approval prototype using a fictional document and clearly marked sample names. Show who has the next action and what happens after completion. This is a UX exercise, not an implementation of legally valid signatures. Do not infer regulatory suitability or a full production architecture from a README.
